How Do Plants Grow?
From a tiny seed to a flower
Duration: 1:59
How does a tiny seed become a big plant? Join our little explorer in the garden and discover the secret hidden inside every seed!
In short
Inside every seed there is a baby plant, sleeping, with a little snack to help it grow. When the seed is in the soil and gets some water, it wakes up: a tiny root pushes down into the soil to drink water, and a little green sprout pushes up toward the sunlight. To grow big and strong, a plant needs four things: sunlight, water, air, and soil. The roots drink water from the soil like a drinking straw, and the stem carries it up to the leaves. The leaves use sunlight, air, and water to make food for the plant: plants make their own food! The plant grows taller and taller, and one day a flower opens. Bees visit the flower, and soon the flower makes new seeds. The new seeds fall into the soil, and the whole story starts again: this is the life cycle of a plant.
